The Porcine (MUC1) Mucin-1 ELISA Kit measures Mucin-1 in Porcine samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Porcine MUC1 antibody. MUC1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Porcine MUC1 Antibody is added and binds to MUC1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MUC1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Porcine MUC1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Mucin 1, cell surface associated (MUC1), also called polymorphic epithelial mucin (PEM) or epithelial membrane antigen or EMA, is a mucin encoded by the MUC1 gene in humans. MUC1 is a glycoprotein with extensive O-linked glycosylation of its extracellular domain. Mucins line the apical surface of epithelial cells in the lungs, stomach, intestines, eyes and several other organs. Mucins protect the body from infection by pathogen binding to oligosaccharides in the extracellular domain, preventing the pathogen from reaching the cell surface. Overexpression of MUC1 is often associated with colon, breast, ovarian, lung and pancreatic cancers.
