The Bovine (B4GALT1) Beta-1 ELISA Kit measures Beta-1 in Bovine samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Bovine B4GALT1 antibody. B4GALT1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Bovine B4GALT1 Antibody is added and binds to B4GALT1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated B4GALT1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Bovine B4GALT1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
The Golgi complex form catalyzes the production of lactose in the lactating mammary gland and could also be responsible for the synthesis of complex-type N-linked oligosaccharides in many glycoproteins as well as the carbohydrate moieties of glycolipids.
The cell surface form functions as a recognition molecule during a variety of cell to cell and cell to matrix interactions, as those occurring during development and egg fertilization, by binding to specific oligosaccharide ligands on opposing cells or in the extracellular matrix. The secreted form is responsible for the synthesis of complex-type to N-linked oligosaccharides in many glycoproteins as well as the carbohydrate moieties of glycolipids (PubMed:9405390).
