The Human (AGRP) Agouti Related Protein ELISA Kit measures Agouti Related Protein in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human AGRP antibody. AGRP present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human AGRP Antibody is added and binds to AGRP in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated AGRP antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human AGRP. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Plays a role in weight homeostasis. Involved in the control of feeding behavior through the central melanocortin system. Acts as alpha melanocyte-stimulating hormone antagonist by inhibiting cAMP production mediated by stimulation of melanocortin receptors within the hypothalamus and adrenal gland. Has very low activity with MC5R (By similarity).
