The Human (CYP26A1) Cytochrome P450 26A1 ELISA Kit measures Cytochrome P450 26A1 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human CYP26A1 antibody. CYP26A1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human CYP26A1 Antibody is added and binds to CYP26A1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated CYP26A1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human CYP26A1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background A cytochrome P450 monooxygenase involved in the metabolism of all-trans retinoic acid (atRA), a signaling molecule that binds to retinoic acid receptors and regulates gene transcription. Mechanistically, uses molecular oxygen inserting one oxygen atom into a substrate, and reducing the second into a water molecule, with two electrons provided by NADPH via cytochrome P450 reductase (CPR; NADPH-ferrihemoprotein reductase). Catalyzes the hydroxylation of carbon hydrogen bonds of atRA primarily at C-4 and C-18. Has no activity toward 9-cis and 13-cis retinoic acid stereoisomers (PubMed: 22020119, PubMed: 9228017, PubMed: 9716180).
