The Human (LRAT) Lecithin Retinol Acyltransferase ELISA Kit measures Lecithin retinol acyltransferase in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human LRAT antibody. LRAT present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human LRAT Antibody is added and binds to LRAT in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated LRAT antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human LRAT. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Transfers the acyl group from the sn-1 position of phosphatidylcholine to all-trans retinol, producing all-trans retinyl esters (PubMed:9920938).
Retinyl esters are storage forms of vitamin A (Probable). LRAT plays a critical role in vision (Probable). It provides the all-trans retinyl ester substrates for the isomerohydrolase which processes the esters into 11-cis-retinol in the retinal pigment epithelium; due to a membrane-associated alcohol dehydrogenase, 11 cis-retinol is oxidized and converted into 11-cis-retinaldehyde which is the chromophore for rhodopsin and the cone photopigments (Probable).
