The Human (MEF2A) Myocyte-specific Enhancer Factor 2A ELISA Kit measures Myocyte-Specific Enhancer Factor 2A in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human MEF2A antibody. MEF2A present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human MEF2A Antibody is added and binds to MEF2A in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MEF2A antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human MEF2A. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Transcriptional activator which binds specifically to the MEF2 element, 5'-YTA[AT](4)TAR-3', found in numerous muscle-specific genes. Also involved in the activation of numerous growth factor- and stress-induced genes. Mediates cellular functions not only in skeletal and cardiac muscle development, but also in neuronal differentiation and survival. Plays diverse roles in the control of cell growth, survival and apoptosis via p38 MAPK signaling in muscle-specific and/or growth factor-related transcription. In cerebellar granule neurons, phosphorylated and sumoylated MEF2A represses transcription of NUR77 promoting synaptic differentiation. Associates with chromatin to the ZNF16 promoter.
