The Human (MRPL18) 39S Ribosomal Protein L18, Mitochondrial ELISA Kit measures 39S Ribosomal Protein L18, Mitochondrial in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human MRPL18 antibody. MRPL18 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human MRPL18 Antibody is added and binds to MRPL18 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MRPL18 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human MRPL18. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Together with thiosulfate sulfurtransferase (TST), acts as a mitochondrial import factor for the cytosolic 5S rRNA. The precursor form shows RNA chaperone activity; is able to fold the 5S rRNA into an import-competent conformation that is recognized by rhodanese (TST).
