Human MUC19 (Mucin-19) ELISA Kit
Human MUC19 (Mucin-19) ELISA Kit
The Human (MUC19) Mucin-19 ELISA Kit measures Mucin-19 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human MUC19 antibody. MUC19 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human MUC19 Antibody is added and binds to MUC19 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MUC19 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human MUC19. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Mucins are a family of high molecular weight, heavily glycosylated proteins (glycoconjugates) produced by epithelial tissues in most animals. Mucins' key characteristic is their ability to form gels; therefore they are a key component in most gel-like secretions, serving functions from lubrication to cell signalling to forming chemical barriers. Mucins have been found to have important functions in defense against bacterial and fungal infections. MUC5B, the predominate mucin in the mouth and female genital tract, has been shown to significantly reduce attachment and biofilm formation of Streptococcus mutans, a bacterium with the potential to form cavities.
