The Human (NLGN1) Neuroligin-1 ELISA Kit measures Neuroligin-1 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human NLGN1 antibody. NLGN1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human NLGN1 Antibody is added and binds to NLGN1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated NLGN1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human NLGN1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Cell surface protein involved in cell-cell-interactions via its interactions with neurexin family members. Plays a role in synapse function and synaptic signal transmission, and probably mediates its effects by recruiting and clustering other synaptic proteins. May promote the initial formation of synapses, but is not essential for this. In vitro, triggers the de novo formation of presynaptic structures. May be involved in specification of excitatory synapses. Required to maintain wakefulness quality and normal synchrony of cerebral cortex activity during wakefulness and sleep (By similarity).
