The Human (A1-AT) Α1-Antitrypsin ELISA Kit measures alpha1-Antitrypsin in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human SERPINA1 antibody. SERPINA1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human SERPINA1 Antibody is added and binds to SERPINA1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SERPINA1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human SERPINA1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Inhibitor of serine proteases. Its primary target is elastase, but it also has a moderate affinity for plasmin and thrombin. Irreversibly inhibits trypsin, chymotrypsin and plasminogen activator. The aberrant form inhibits insulin-induced NO synthesis in platelets, decreases coagulation time and has proteolytic activity against insulin and plasmin. [Short Peptide from AAT]: reversible chymotrypsin inhibitor. It also inhibits elastase, but not trypsin.
