The Bovine (MMP2) 72 kDa Type IV Collagenase ELISA Kit measures 72 kDa type IV collagenase in Bovine samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Bovine MMP2 antibody. MMP2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Bovine MMP2 Antibody is added and binds to MMP2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MMP2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Bovine MMP2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Ubiquitinous metalloproteinase that is involved in diverse functions such as remodeling of the vasculature, angiogenesis, tissue repair, tumor invasion, inflammation, and atherosclerotic plaque rupture. As well as degrading extracellular matrix proteins, can also act on several nonmatrix proteins such as big endothelial 1 and beta-type CGRP promoting vasoconstriction. Also cleaves KISS at a Gly-|-Leu bond. Appears to have a role in myocardial cell death pathways. Contributes to myocardial oxidative stress by regulating the activity of GSK3beta. Cleaves GSK3beta in vitro. Involved in the formation of the fibrovascular tissues (By similarity).
