The Equine (IGF2) Insulin-like Growth Factor 2 ELISA Kit measures Insulin-like Growth Factor 2 in Equine samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Equine IGF2 antibody. IGF2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Equine IGF2 Antibody is added and binds to IGF2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IGF2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Equine IGF2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background The Insulin-like growth factors possess growth-promoting activity (By similarity). Major fetal growth hormone in mammals. Plays a key role in regulating fetoplacental development. IGF2 is influenced by placental lactogen. Also involved in tissue differentiation. In adults, involved in glucose metabolism in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and liver. Acts as a ligand for integrin which is required for IGF2 signaling. Positively regulates myogenic transcription factor MYOD1 function by facilitating the recruitment of transcriptional coactivators, thereby controlling muscle terminal differentiation (By similarity). Inhibits myoblast differentiation and modulates metabolism via increasing the mitochondrial respiration rate (By similarity). Preptin undergoes glucose-mediated co-secretion with insulin, and acts as physiological amplifier of glucose-mediated insulin secretion.
