The Human (AQP-5) Aquaporin 5 ELISA Kit measures Aquaporin 5 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human AQP5 antibody. AQP5 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human AQP5 Antibody is added and binds to AQP5 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated AQP5 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human AQP5. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Forms a water-specific Channel (PubMed: 8621489, PubMed: 18768791). Plays an important role in fluid secretion in salivary glands (By similarity). Required for TRPV4 activation by hypotonicity. Together with TRPV4, controls regulatory volume decrease in salivary epithelial cells (PubMed: 16571723).
