Human ASIP (Agouti-signaling Protein) ELISA Kit
Human ASIP (Agouti-signaling Protein) ELISA Kit
The Human (ASIP) Agouti-signaling Protein ELISA Kit measures Agouti-Signaling Protein in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human ASIP antibody. ASIP present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human ASIP Antibody is added and binds to ASIP in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated ASIP antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human ASIP. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Involved in the regulation of melanogenesis. The binding of ASP to MC1R precludes alpha-MSH initiated signaling and thus blocks production of cAMP, leading to a down-regulation of eumelanogenesis (brown/black pigment) and thus increasing synthesis of pheomelanin (yellow/red pigment). In higher primates, agouti may affect the quality of hair pigmentation rather than its pattern of deposition. Could well play a role in neuroendocrine aspects of melanocortin action. May have some functional role in regulating the lipid metabolism with adipocytes. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
