The Human (BPIL1) Bactericidal Permeability-increasing Protein-like 1 ELISA Kit measures Bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein-like 1 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human BPIL1 antibody. BPIL1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human BPIL1 Antibody is added and binds to BPIL1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated BPIL1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human BPIL1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background The cytotoxic action of BPI is limited to many species of Gram-negative bacteria; this specificity may be explained by a strong affinity of the very basic N-terminal half for the negatively charged lipopolysaccharides that are unique to the Gram-negative bacterial outer envelope.
