The Human (C8G) Complement Component C8 Gamma Chain ELISA Kit measures Complement Component C8 Gamma Chain in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human C8G antibody. C8G present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human C8G Antibody is added and binds to C8G in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated C8G antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human C8G. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

C8 is a constituent of the membrane attack complex. C8 binds to the C5B-7 complex, forming the C5B-8 complex. C5-B8 binds C9 and acts as a catalyst in the polymerization of C9. The gamma subunit seems to be able to bind retinol. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
