The Human (CA5B) Carbonic Anhydrase 5B, Mitochondrial ELISA Kit measures Carbonic Anhydrase 5B,Mitochondrial in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human CA5B antibody. CA5B present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human CA5B Antibody is added and binds to CA5B in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated CA5B antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human CA5B. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Carbonic anhydrase 5B, mitochondrial is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CA5B gene. Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are a large family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They participate in a variety of biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. They show extensive diversity in tissue distribution and in their subcellular localization. CA VB is localized in the mitochondria and shows the highest sequence similarity to the other mitochondrial CA, CA VA. It has a wider tissue distribution than CA VA, which is restricted to the liver. The differences in tissue distribution suggest that the two mitochondrial carbonic anhydrases evolved to assume different physiologic roles. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
