The Human (ELOVL2) Elongation of Very Long Chain Fatty Acids Protein 2 ELISA Kit measures Elongation of very long chain fatty acids protein 2 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human ELOVL2 antibody. ELOVL2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human ELOVL2 Antibody is added and binds to ELOVL2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated ELOVL2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human ELOVL2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.
BackgroundCatalyzes the first and rate-limiting reaction of the four reactions that constitute the long-chain fatty acids elongation cycle. This endoplasmic reticulum-bound enzymatic process allows the addition of 2 carbons to the chain of long- and very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) per cycle. Condensing enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of polyunsaturated very long chain fatty acid (C20- and C22-PUFA), acting specifically toward polyunsaturated acyl-CoA with the higher activity toward C20:4(n-6) acyl-CoA. May participate in the production of polyunsaturated VLCFAs of different chain lengths that are involved in multiple biological processes as precursors of membrane lipids and lipid mediators.
