The Human (FXN) Frataxin, Mitochondrial ELISA Kit measures Frataxin, Mitochondrial in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human FXN antibody. FXN present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human FXN Antibody is added and binds to FXN in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated FXN antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human FXN. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Promotes the biosynthesis of heme and assembly and repair of iron-sulfur clusters by delivering Fe(2+) to proteins involved in these pathways. May play a role in the protection against iron-catalyzed oxidative stress through its ability to catalyze the oxidation of Fe(2+) to Fe(3+); the oligomeric form but not the monomeric form has in vitro ferroxidase activity. May be able to store large amounts of iron in the form of a ferrihydrite mineral by oligomerization; however, the physiological relevance is unsure as reports are conflicting and the function has only been shown using heterologous overexpression systems.
