Human GAD1 (Glutamate Decarboxylase 1) ELISA Kit

Human GAD1 (Glutamate Decarboxylase 1) ELISA Kit

The Human (GAD1) Glutamate Decarboxylase 1 ELISA Kit measures Glutamate decarboxylase 1 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human GAD1 antibody. GAD1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human GAD1 Antibody is added and binds to GAD1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated GAD1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human GAD1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background Glutamate decarboxylase 1 (brain, 67kDa) (GAD67), also known as GAD1, is a human gene. This gene encodes one of several forms of glutamic acid decarboxylase, identified as a major autoantigen in insulin-dependent diabetes. The enzyme encoded is responsible for catalyzing the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid from L-glutamic acid. A pathogenic role for this enzyme has been identified in the human pancreas since it has been identified as an autoantigen and an autoreactive T cell target in insulin-dependent diabetes. This gene may also play a role in the stiff man syndrome. Deficiency in this enzyme has been shown to lead to pyridoxine dependency with seizures. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two products, the predominant 67-kD form and a less-frequent 25-kD form. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
