Human GALE (Udp-Glucose 4-Epimerase) ELISA Kit
Human GALE (Udp-Glucose 4-Epimerase) ELISA Kit
The Human (GALE) Udp-Glucose 4-Epimerase ELISA Kit measures Udp-Glucose 4-Epimerase in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human GALE antibody. GALE present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human GALE Antibody is added and binds to GALE in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated GALE antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human GALE. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Catalyzes two distinct but analogous reactions: the reversible epimerization of UDP-glucose to UDP-galactose and the reversible epimerization of UDP-N-acetylglucosamine to UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine. The reaction with UDP-Gal plays a critical role in the Leloir pathway of galactose catabolism in which galactose is converted to the glycolytic intermediate glucose 6-phosphate. It contributes to the catabolism of dietary galactose and enables the endogenous biosynthesis of both UDP-Gal and UDP-GalNAc when exogenous sources are limited. Both UDP-sugar interconversions are important in the synthesis of glycoproteins and glycolipids. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
