The Human (GLRX2) Glutaredoxin-2, Mitochondrial ELISA Kit measures Glutaredoxin-2, Mitochondrial in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human GLRX2 antibody. GLRX2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human GLRX2 Antibody is added and binds to GLRX2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated GLRX2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human GLRX2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Glutathione-dependent oxidoreductase that facilitates the maintenance of mitochondrial redox homeostasis upon induction of apoptosis by oxidative stress. Involved in response to hydrogen peroxide and regulation of apoptosis caused by oxidative stress. Acts as a very efficient catalyst of monothiol reactions because of its high affinity for protein glutathione-mixed disulfides. Can receive electrons not only from glutathione (GSH), but also from thioredoxin reductase supporting both monothiol and dithiol reactions. Efficiently catalyzes both glutathionylation and deglutathionylation of mitochondrial complex I, which in turn regulates the superoxide production by the complex. Overexpression decreases the susceptibility to apoptosis and prevents loss of cardiolipin and cytochrome c release. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
