The Human (HK2) Hexokinase-2 ELISA Kit measures Hexokinase-2 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human HK2 antibody. HK2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human HK2 Antibody is added and binds to HK2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated HK2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human HK2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Mediates the initial step of glycolysis by catalyzing phosphorylation of D-glucose to D-glucose 6-phosphate (PubMed: 29298880). Plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the outer mitochondrial membrane by preventing the release of apoptogenic molecules from the intermembrane space and subsequent apoptosis (PubMed: 18350175).
