Human HO-1 (Heme Oxygenase 1) ELISA Kit
Human HO-1 (Heme Oxygenase 1) ELISA Kit
The Human (HO-1) Heme Oxygenase 1 ELISA Kit measures Heme Oxygenase 1 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human HMOX1 antibody. HMOX1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human HMOX1 Antibody is added and binds to HMOX1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated HMOX1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human HMOX1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Heme oxygenase cleaves the heme ring at the alpha methene bridge to form biliverdin. Biliverdin is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase. Under physiological conditions, the activity of heme oxygenase is highest in the spleen, where senescent erythrocytes are sequestrated and destroyed. Exhibits cytoprotective effects since excess of free heme sensitizes cells to undergo apoptosis. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
