The Human (HTN3) Histatin-3 ELISA Kit measures Histatin-3 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human HTN3 antibody. HTN3 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human HTN3 Antibody is added and binds to HTN3 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated HTN3 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human HTN3. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Histatins are salivary proteins that are considered to be major precursors of the protective proteinaceous structure on tooth surfaces (enamel pellicle). In addition, histatins exhibit antibacterial and antifungal activities. His3-(20-43)-peptide (histatin-5) is especially effective against C.albicans and C.neoformans, and inhibits Lys-gingipain and Arg-gingipain (rgpB) from P.gingivalis.
