The Human (IGJ) Immunoglobulin J Chain ELISA Kit measures Immunoglobulin J Chain in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human JCHAIN antibody. JCHAIN present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human JCHAIN Antibody is added and binds to JCHAIN in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated JCHAIN antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human JCHAIN. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

In the case of IgM, the J chain-joined dimer is a nucleating unit for the IgM pentamer, and in the case of IgA it induces dimers and/or larger polymers.
