The Human (IL-11) Interleukin 11 ELISA Kit measures Interleukin 11 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human IL11 antibody. IL11 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human IL11 Antibody is added and binds to IL11 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IL11 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human IL11. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Cytokine that stimulates the proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells and megakaryocyte progenitor cells and induces megakaryocyte maturation resulting in increased platelet production (PubMed: 2145578). Also promotes the proliferation of hepatocytes in response to liver damage. Binding to its receptor formed by IL6ST and IL11RA activates a signaling cascade that promotes cell proliferation (PubMed: 12919066). Signaling leads to the activation of intracellular protein kinases and the phosphorylation of STAT3. The interaction with the membrane-bound IL11RA and IL6ST stimulates 'classic signaling', whereas the binding of IL11 and soluble IL11RA to IL6ST stimulates 'trans-signaling' (PubMed: 30279168).
