The Human (IL-1B) Interleukin 1Beta ELISA Kit measures Interleukin 1 beta in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human IL1B antibody. IL1B present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human IL1B Antibody is added and binds to IL1B in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IL1B antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human IL1B. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Potent proinflammatory cytokine. Initially discovered as the major endogenous pyrogen, induces prostaglandin synthesis, neutrophil influx and activation, T-cell activation and cytokine production, B-cell activation and antibody production, and fibroblast proliferation and collagen production. Promotes Th17 differentiation of T-cells. Synergizes with IL12/interleukin-12 to induce IFNG synthesis from T-helper 1 (Th1) cells (PubMed: 10653850).
