The Human (SCN11A) Sodium Channel Protein Type 11 Subunit Alpha ELISA Kit measures Sodium Channel protein type 11 subunit alpha in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human SCN11A antibody. SCN11A present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human SCN11A Antibody is added and binds to SCN11A in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SCN11A antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human SCN11A. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background This protein mediates the voltage-dependent sodium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a sodium-selective channel through which sodium ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient. It is a tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium channel isoform. Also involved, with the contribution of the receptor tyrosine kinase NTRK2, in rapid BDNF-evoked neuronal depolarization.
