The Human (SEMG1) Semenogelin-1 ELISA Kit measures Semenogelin-1 in samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Human SEMG1 antibody. SEMG1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human SEMG1 Antibody is added and binds to SEMG1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SEMG1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human SEMG1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Predominant protein in semen. It participates in the formation of a gel matrix entrapping the accessory gland secretions and ejaculated spermatozoa. Fragments of semenogelin and/or fragments of the related proteins may contribute to the activation of progressive sperm movements as the gel-forming proteins are fragmented by KLK3/PSA. Alpha-inhibin-92 and alpha-inhibin-31, derived from the proteolytic degradation of semenogelin, inhibit the secretion of pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
