Mouse ASIP (Agouti-signaling Protein) ELISA Kit
Mouse ASIP (Agouti-signaling Protein) ELISA Kit
The Mouse (ASIP) Agouti-signaling Protein ELISA Kit measures Agouti-signaling protein in Mouse samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse ASIP antibody. ASIP present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse ASIP Antibody is added and binds to ASIP in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated ASIP antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse ASIP. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Involved in the regulation of melanogenesis. The binding of ASP to MC1R precludes alpha-MSH initiated signaling and thus blocks production of cAMP, leading to a down-regulation of eumelanogenesis (brown/black pigment) and thus increasing synthesis of pheomelanin (yellow/red pigment). Causes hair follicle melanocytes to synthesize phaeomelanin instead of black or brown pigment eumelanin and produces hairs with a subapical yellow band on an otherwise black or brown background when expressed during the mid-portion of hair growth.
