The Mouse (FNDC5) Fibronectin Type 3 Domain-containing Protein 5 ELISA Kit measures Fibronectin type 3 domain-containing protein 5 in Mouse samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse FNDC5 antibody. FNDC5 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse FNDC5 Antibody is added and binds to FNDC5 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated FNDC5 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse FNDC5. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background Fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5, the precursor of irisin, is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that is encoded by the FNDC5 gene. Irisin is a cleaved version of FNDC5, named after the Greek messenger goddess Iris. Fibronectin domain-containing protein 5 is a membrane protein comprising a short cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane segment, and an ectodomain consisting of a ~100 kDa fibronectin type III (FNIII) domain.
