The Mouse (GRIN2C) Glutamate, Nmda Receptor Subunit Epsilon-3 ELISA Kit measures Glutamate,NMDA receptor subunit epsilon-3 in Mouse samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse GRIN2C antibody. GRIN2C present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse GRIN2C Antibody is added and binds to GRIN2C in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated GRIN2C antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse GRIN2C. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.
BackgroundComponent of NMDA receptor complexes that function as heterotetrameric, ligand-gated ion channels with high calcium permeability and voltage-dependent sensitivity to magnesium. Channel activation requires binding of the neurotransmitter glutamate to the epsilon subunit, glycine binding to the zeta subunit, plus membrane depolarization to eliminate channel inhibition by Mg2+ (PubMed:1377365).
Sensitivity to glutamate and channel kinetics depend on the subunit composition (PubMed:1377365).
Plays a role in regulating the balance between excitatory and inhibitory activity of pyramidal neurons in the prefrontal cortex (PubMed:27922130).
Contributes to the slow phase of excitatory postsynaptic current, long-term synaptic potentiation, and learning (PubMed:8987814). Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
