The Mouse (MYL2) Myosin Regulatory Light Chain 2, Ventricular, Cardiac Muscle Isoform ELISA Kit measures Myosin regulatory light chain 2, ventricular/cardiac muscle isoform in Mouse samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse MYL2 antibody. MYL2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse MYL2 Antibody is added and binds to MYL2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MYL2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse MYL2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.
BackgroundContractile protein that plays a role in heart development and function (PubMed:10409661).
Following phosphorylation, plays a role in cross-bridge cycling kinetics and cardiac muscle contraction by increasing myosin lever arm stiffness and promoting myosin head diffusion; as a consequence of the increase in maximum contraction force and calcium sensitivity of contraction force. These events altogether slow down myosin kinetics and prolong duty cycle resulting in accumulated myosins being cooperatively recruited to actin binding sites to sustain thin filament activation as a means to fine-tune myofilament calcium sensitivity to force (By similarity) (PubMed:22426213, PubMed:16908724, PubMed:10409661).
During cardiogenesis plays an early role in cardiac contractility by promoting cardiac myofibril assembly (PubMed:9422794). Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
