The Mouse (SREBF2) Sterol Regulatory Element-binding Protein 2 ELISA Kit measures Sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 in Mouse samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse SREBF2 antibody. SREBF2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse SREBF2 Antibody is added and binds to SREBF2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SREBF2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse SREBF2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.
BackgroundPrecursor of the transcription factor form (Processed sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2), which is embedded in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane (By similarity).
Low sterol concentrations promote processing of this form, releasing the transcription factor form that translocates into the nucleus and activates transcription of genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis (PubMed:9616204, PubMed:16100574).
Key transcription factor that regulates expression of genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis (PubMed:9616204).
Binds to the sterol regulatory element 1 (SRE-1) (5'-ATCACCCCAC-3'). Has dual sequence specificity binding to both an E-box motif (5'-ATCACGTGA-3') and to SRE-1 (5'-ATCACCCCAC-3') (By similarity).
Regulates transcription of genes related to cholesterol synthesis pathway (PubMed:9616204). Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
