The Mouse (UBA1) Ubiquitin-like Modifier-activating Enzyme 1 ELISA Kit measures Ubiquitin-like modifier-activating enzyme 1 in Mouse samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse UBA1 antibody. UBA1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse UBA1 Antibody is added and binds to UBA1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated UBA1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse UBA1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Catalyzes the first step in ubiquitin conjugation to mark cellular proteins for degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome system (PubMed:1511901).
Activates ubiquitin by first adenylating its C-terminal glycine residue with ATP, and thereafter linking this residue to the side chain of a cysteine residue in E1, yielding a ubiquitin-E1 thioester and free AMP. Essential for the formation of radiation-induced foci, timely DNA repair and for response to replication stress. Promotes the recruitment of TP53BP1 and BRCA1 at DNA damage sites.
