The Rabbit (PIGR) Polymeric Immunoglobulin Receptor ELISA Kit measures polymeric immunoglobulin receptor in Rabbit samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rabbit PIGR antibody. PIGR present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rabbit PIGR Antibody is added and binds to PIGR in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated PIGR antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rabbit PIGR. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Mediates selective transcytosis of polymeric IgA and IgM across mucosal epithelial cells. Binds polymeric IgA and IgM at the basolateral surface of epithelial cells. The complex is then transported across the cell to be secreted at the apical surface. During this process, a cleavage occurs that separates the extracellular (known as the secretory component) from the transmembrane segment.
Through its N-linked glycans ensures anchoring of secretory IgA (sIgA) molecules to mucus lining the epithelial surface to neutralize extracellular pathogens.
