The Rat (AQP-4) Aquaporin 4 ELISA Kit measures Aquaporin 4 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat AQP4 antibody. AQP4 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat AQP4 Antibody is added and binds to AQP4 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated AQP4 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat AQP4. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Forms a water-specific Channel (PubMed: 7528931, PubMed: 7509789, PubMed: 19800950). Plays an important role in brain water homeostasis and in glymphatic solute transport. Required for a normal rate of water exchange across the blood brain interface. Required for normal levels of cerebrospinal fluid influx into the brain cortex and parenchyma along paravascular spaces that surround penetrating arteries, and for normal drainage of interstitial fluid along paravenous drainage pathways. Thereby, it is required for normal clearance of solutes from the brain interstitial fluid, including soluble beta-amyloid Peptides derived from APP.
