The Rat (AQP-5) Aquaporin 5 ELISA Kit measures Aquaporin 5 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat AQP-5 antibody. AQP-5 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat AQP-5 Antibody is added and binds to AQP-5 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated AQP-5 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat AQP-5. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Plays an important role in fluid secretion in salivary glands. Required for TRPV4 activation by hypotonicity. Together with TRPV4, controls regulatory volume decrease in salivary epithelial cells.
