The Rat (BAX) Apoptosis Regulator Bax ELISA Kit measures Apoptosis regulator BAX in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat BAX antibody. BAX present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat BAX Antibody is added and binds to BAX in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated BAX antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat BAX. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Accelerates programmed cell death by binding to, and antagonizing the apoptosis repressor BCL2 or its adenovirus homolog E1B 19k protein. Under stress conditions, undergoes a conformation change that causes translocation to the mitochondrion membrane, leading to the release of cytochrome c that then triggers apoptosis.
