The Rat (BETA-CAT) Beta-Catenin ELISA Kit measures Catenin beta-1 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat CTNNB1 antibody. CTNNB1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat CTNNB1 Antibody is added and binds to CTNNB1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated CTNNB1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat CTNNB1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Catenin beta-1, also known as Beta-catenin, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CTNNB1 gene. Beta-catenin is a dual function protein, involved in regulation and coordination of cell–cell adhesion and gene transcription. In humans, the CTNNB1 protein is encoded by the CTNNB1 gene. In Drosophila, the homologous protein is called armadillo. Beta-catenin is a subunit of the cadherin protein complex and acts as an intracellular signal transducer in the Wnt signaling pathway. It is a member of the catenin protein family and homologous to γ-catenin, also known as plakoglobin. Beta-catenin is widely expressed in many tissues. In cardiac muscle, beta-catenin localizes to adherens junctions in intercalated disc structures, which are critical for electrical and mechanical coupling between adjacent cardiomyocytes.
