The Rat (BMP-2) Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 ELISA Kit measures Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat BMP2 antibody. BMP2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat BMP2 Antibody is added and binds to BMP2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated BMP2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat BMP2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Induces cartilage and bone formation. Stimulates the differentiation of myoblasts into osteoblasts via the EIF2AK3-EIF2A-ATF4 pathway. BMP2 activation of EIF2AK3 stimulates phosphorylation of EIF2A which leads to increased expression of ATF4 which plays a central role in osteoblast differentiation.
