The Rat (CNTN1) Contactin-1 ELISA Kit measures Contactin-1 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat CNTN1 antibody. CNTN1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat CNTN1 Antibody is added and binds to CNTN1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated CNTN1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat CNTN1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Contactins mediate cell surface interactions during nervous system development. Involved in the formation of paranodal axo-glial junctions in myelinated peripheral nerves and in the signaling between axons and myelinating glial cells via its association with CNTNAP1. Participates in oligodendrocytes generation by acting as a ligand of NOTCH1. Its association with NOTCH1 promotes NOTCH1 activation through the released notch intracellular domain (NICD) and subsequent translocation to the nucleus.
