The Rat (CX43) Connexin 43 ELISA Kit measures Connexin 43 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat GJA1 antibody. GJA1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat GJA1 Antibody is added and binds to GJA1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated GJA1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat GJA1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Gap junction protein that acts as a regulator of bladder capacity. A gap junction consists of a cluster of closely packed pairs of transmembrane Channels, the connexons, through which materials of low MW diffuse from one cell to a neighboring cell. Negative regulator of bladder functional capacity: acts by enhancing intercellular electrical and chemical transmission, thus sensitizing bladder muscles to cholinergic neural stimuli and causing them to contract (By similarity). May play a role in cell growth inhibition through the regulation of NOV expression and localization (PubMed: 15181016).
