The Rat (CYP19A1) Cytochrome P450 19A1 ELISA Kit measures Cytochrome P450 19A1 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat CYP19A1 antibody. CYP19A1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat CYP19A1 Antibody is added and binds to CYP19A1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated CYP19A1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat CYP19A1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Aromatase, also called estrogen synthetase or estrogen synthase, is an enzyme responsible for a key step in the biosynthesis of estrogens. It is CYP19A1, a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily (EC 1.14.14.1), which are monooxygenases that catalyze many reactions involved in steroidogenesis. In particular, aromatase is responsible for the aromatization of androgens into estrogens. The enzyme aromatase can be found in many tissues including gonads (granulosa cells), brain, adipose tissue, placenta, blood vessels, skin, and bone, as well as in tissue of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, breast cancer, and endometrial cancer.[citation needed] It is an important factor in sexual development.
