The Rat (GOT1) Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase 1 ELISA Kit measures Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase 1 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat GOT1 antibody. GOT1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat GOT1 Antibody is added and binds to GOT1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated GOT1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat GOT1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Biosynthesis of L-glutamate from L-aspartate or L-cysteine. Important regulator of levels of glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter of the vertebrate central nervous system. Acts as a scavenger of glutamate in brain neuroprotection. The aspartate aminotransferase activity is involved in hepatic glucose synthesis during development and in adipocyte glyceroneogenesis. Using L-cysteine as substrate, regulates levels of mercaptopyruvate, an important source of hydrogen sulfide. Mercaptopyruvate is converted into H(2)S via the action of 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3MST). Hydrogen sulfide is an important synaptic modulator and neuroprotectant in the brain.
