The Rat (HTR2C) 5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 2C ELISA Kit measures 5-Hydroxytryptamine Receptor 2C in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat HTR2C antibody. HTR2C present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat HTR2C Antibody is added and binds to HTR2C in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated HTR2C antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat HTR2C. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background G-protein coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Also functions as a receptor for various drugs and psychoactive substances, including ergot alkaloid derivatives, 1-2,5,-dimethoxy-4-iodophenyl-2-aminopropane (DOI) and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors. Beta-arrestin family members inhibit signaling via G proteins and mediate activation of alternative signaling pathways. Signaling activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system that modulates the activity of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and down-stream signaling cascades and promotes the release of Ca(2+) ions from intracellular stores.
