The Rat (MMP-8) Matrix Metallopeptidase 8, Neutrophil Collagenase ELISA Kit measures matrix metallopeptidase 8,neutrophil collagenase in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat MMP8 antibody. MMP8 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat MMP8 Antibody is added and binds to MMP8 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated MMP8 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat MMP8. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Neutrophil collagenase, also known as matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) or PMNL collagenase (MNL-CL), is a collagen cleaving enzyme which is present in the connective tissue of most mammals. In humans, the MMP-8 protein is encoded by the MMP8 gene. The gene is part of a cluster of MMP genes which localize to chromosome 11q22.3. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. However, the enzyme encoded by this gene is stored in secondary granules within neutrophils and is activated by autolytic cleavage. Source: UniProt Consortium (2025)
