The Rat (SMAD7) Mothers Against Decapentaplegic Homolog 7 ELISA Kit measures Mothers Against Decapentaplegic Homolog 7 in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat SMAD7 antibody. SMAD7 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat SMAD7 Antibody is added and binds to SMAD7 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated SMAD7 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat SMAD7. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
Antagonist of signaling by TGF-beta (transforming growth factor) type 1 receptor superfamily members; has been shown to inhibit TGF-beta (Transforming growth factor) and activin signaling by associating with their receptors thus preventing SMAD2 access. Functions as an adapter to recruit SMURF2 to the TGF-beta receptor complex. Also acts by recruiting the PPP1R15A-PP1 complex to TGFBR1, which promotes its dephosphorylation.
