The Rat (UMOD) Uromodulin ELISA Kit measures Uromodulin in Rat samples. The plate has been pre-coated with Rat UMOD antibody. UMOD present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat UMOD Antibody is added and binds to UMOD in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated UMOD antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat UMOD. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Background
[Uromodulin]: Functions in biogenesis and organization of the apical membrane of epithelial cells of the thick ascending limb of Henle's loop (TALH), where it promotes formation of complex filamentous gel-like structure that may play a role in the water barrier permeability. May serve as a receptor for binding and endocytosis of cytokines (IL-1, IL-2) and TNF. Facilitates neutrophil migration across renal epithelia. [Uromodulin, secreted form]: In the urine, may contribute to colloid osmotic pressure, retards passage of positively charged electrolytes, prevents urinary tract infection and inhibits formation of liquid containing supersaturated salts and subsequent formation of salt crystals.
